The Way of Saint Cuthbert is, officially, a modern trail established in the 1990s, but it follows a much more historical route that Saint Cuthbert would have taken between Melrose Abby and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. This connects the very early Celtic Christian traditions associated with Saint Columba and the Island of Iona (and ultimately to Saint Patrick) with the early Northumbrian Christian Church. More personally, this also celebrates the missionary efforts of these Celtic and later Northumbrian clerics made to bring Christianity to my people, the Scots, which greatly improved the future of my family to this day.
